Blackthorn is a Detroit‑based Celtic folk quartet formed in 1984, led by Belfast native Richard McMullan on lead vocals and multiple instruments. The group’s members each play several traditional instruments—including flute, accordion, tin whistle, fiddle, banjo and bodhran—and are known for four‑part harmony blending traditional Irish songs, sea shanties, jigs and contemporary Irish material. They have released seven CDs and were voted “Best Folk Band/Artist” by the Detroit Metro Times readers in 2010.
