Rows of white marble crosses sweep across the hillside, each marking an American life lost in WWI or WWII. This is the only US military cemetery in Europe honoring both wars: 1,565 graves, including seven nurses and the poignant twin sisters who served at Verdun, plus a Wall of the Missing for 974 never found.
