Festes de Sant Joan — Diumenge des Bè 2026 (Ciutadella)

June 21 at 10am

Ciutadella

The Diumenge des Bè marks the dramatic opening of Ciutadella's legendary Sant Joan festivities, dating back to the 14th century. This Sunday sees the First Toc de fabiol (trumpet call) at the Caixer Senyor's house, launching the homo des be on a whirlwind tour of 100+ stops across the city. By evening, the first hazelnut trees are hurled to the crowd, and the entourage gathers for the ceremonial flag-hanging and sa beguda at Caixer Casat—setting the stage for two more days of Jaleos, Caragols, and pure Menorcan horse-powered chaos.

Menorcan tradition
Horse festival
Street celebration
Summer solstice

Tips

🐴Arrive early to secure a spot along Caragol des Born—the horse processions (caragols) draw massive crowds and the action moves fast.
🥜Catch the avellanes (hazelnut throwing) in the evening; it's a beloved local tradition and your chance to join the festive chaos.
🎺Listen for the toc de fabiol—the traditional flute call that kicks off each day's events and signals the start of the celebration.
