Made in America: The Industrial Photography of Christopher Payne

Carnegie Hill

Christopher Payne spent years convincing factory managers to let him behind the curtain. The result is 70 large-scale photographs capturing the scale, complexity, and surprising beauty of American manufacturing: football leather being cut, cymbals being hammered, Peeps on the Just Born conveyor, Steinway pianos drying in formation, and a 13-foot Goodyear tire dwarfing the worker beside it. Audio commentary via the free Bloomberg app lets Payne explain how he got the shot—and what you're actually seeing.

Tips

🎧Download the free Bloomberg audio app before you go—Payne narrates the stories behind 70+ photos, from Goodyear tire factories to Steinway piano workshops.
🏭Look for the 13-foot tire photo and the lost-wax Oscar statuettes series—kids love the scale and behind-the-scenes factory access.
📅Exhibit runs through September 27, 2026. The museum's interactive 'Pen' works here too—tap to save your favorite industrial shots.
