Activity Description
This event is the launch of the book Participatory Art: A Paradigm Shift from Objects to Subjects by Suzana Milevska, published by ZG Kontrapunkt – Skopje in the Punctum edition. The launch will include an introduction by Iskra Geshoska, a conversation between the author Suzana Milevska and Zhivka Valiavicharska, a response by Tijana Ana Spasovska, and a moderated open Q&A session.
The book is a collection of fifteen essays on participatory art, with a focus on art and artists in South-Eastern and Central Europe. These essays, originally written and published in English over more than fifteen years, are now gathered for the first time in this collection, starting with the earliest essay from 2006. A Macedonian edition of the book, with all essays translated by Ana Dimishkovska, has been published in parallel.
Suzana Milevska is a theorist and curator whose interests include postcolonial critique, gender difference in visual culture, and feminist, participatory, and collaborative art practices. She has a Ph.D. in visual cultures from Goldsmiths College University of London and has curated numerous international exhibitions.
The book is part of the Peripheral Visions project, which aims to foster international exchange and support between small cultural and linguistic contexts in the Euro Semi-peripheries through co-production, co-creation, knowledge transfer, and resource sharing. This project is a collaboration of Kulturtreger, Maska Ljubljana, eipcp – European Institute for Progressive Cultural Policies, kuda.org, Kontrapunkt and Multimedia Institute, with associated partners Kulturföreningen Glänta and EUROZINE.
