Activity Description

"Afrotōpia" is a New York Premiere film from Franco-Gabonese filmmaker David Mboussou. The story follows Ezekiel, a 25-year-old aspiring filmmaker in Gabon's Congo Basin, who is forced into his father's logging business. He uncovers a plan to exploit a sacred forest, the last refuge of an indigenous community, and a buried colonial-era family secret. Ezekiel must then choose between loyalty, personal freedom, and the fate of his people. The film blends tradition and modernity to portray contemporary, cross-cultural Africa, serving as an "ecological manifesto" that explores the healing of historical wounds, the stigmatization of African cultures, the sacred link between people, nature, and spirit, and resilience. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with David Mboussou.
