Sun Ra, a poet, philosopher, Egyptologist, and bandleader, with his ever-evolving Sun Ra Arkestra, produced over 200 albums. Director Christine Turner's film takes viewers on an illuminating journey through Sun Ra's life, featuring recollections from Arkestra members and dancers, insightful interviews with music scholars, and unforgettable film and performance footage of Sun Ra. The documentary offers an informative, inspiring, and mind-bending portrait of an artist whose audacious vision, otherworldly imagination, and uncompromising artistry influenced jazz and the cultural landscape of the 20th century and beyond.
The screening will be followed by a conversation between Director & Producer Christine Turner and Max Jefferson.
