  • Description: This event features a screening of Mark Kidel's 1993 film, “The Heart Has Reasons.” The documentary explores different ways of imagining the human heart, contrasting scientific and medical perspectives of the organ as a pump with its cultural image as the seat of courage, love, and the soul. The film, inspired by James Hillman’s essay “The Thought of the Heart,” takes a less conventional journey by bringing together artists, musicians, writers, and a heart surgeon. Contributors include psychologist and writer Ginette Paris, psychotherapist Liz McCormick, a tattooist, and a heart specialist. The film is described as thought-provoking, moving, and humorous, embracing poetry alongside science to open up different pathways to healing through imagination.
