Gowanus Jug & String Band Sessions

Gowanus

Jug band jams by the canal. These weekly sessions dive into Black String band and Jug band music: roots traditions that predate blues and jazz, played on banjos, jugs, washboards, and anything that makes noise. Papa Ernie Vega, a veteran of Newport Folk and Osaka Jug Band festivals, leads intermediate players through songs where a jug becomes a "poor man's tuba" and household items keep the beat.
