Activity Description

Mount Gulian Historic Site offers tours of its historic home, 18th-century Dutch barn, and heritage garden. The tours cover Mount Gulian’s history, including its role in the Revolutionary War as Patriot General Frederick von Steuben’s headquarters, the founding of the Society of the Cincinnati in 1783, and the history of the Verplanck family. Visitors will also learn about James F. Brown, an enslaved man, and Robert Newlin Verplanck’s participation in the Civil War as an officer in the US Colored Troops (USCT). Artifacts from the 18th through 20th centuries, such as antique books, furniture, and Revolutionary War items, are on display.
