Ashima Yadava's "Front Yard" hands the paintbrush to her subjects. The photographer prints black and white family portraits from early COVID days, then invites Bay Area families across class and ethnic lines to color or embellish them however they choose: one used thumbprints for balloons with Tamil text about unconditional love. The result is documentary photography turned inside out, with participants dictating how their own stories are seen.
