Artists and Performers

• Miles Okazaki: NYC-based guitarist, originally from Port Townsend, Washington state. He has released 12 albums of original compositions and is known for his 2018 six-album recording of Thelonious Monk's complete compositions for solo guitar. He teaches at Princeton University.
• Frank Heath: Director, born in 1982 in St. Joseph, Missouri, and currently lives and works in New York City. His work has been exhibited internationally.

Activity Description

This is the world premiere screening of "The Monkathon," a concert film documenting Miles Okazaki’s five-hour solo concert performance of the complete works of Thelonious Monk, which took place at The Jazz Gallery in New York City in 2024. The film was directed by Frank Heath. The evening will include a screening of one of the four sets from the performance, interviews with Okazaki, behind-the-scenes footage, and an overview of the entire project. A Q&A session with Okazaki and Heath will follow the screening. The film builds on Okazaki's critically acclaimed 2017 recording of the complete Thelonious Monk songbook.
