Janáček's devastating opera follows Katia, trapped in a loveless marriage and suffocating under her mother-in-law's tyranny, as she risks everything for a forbidden affair. Gustavo Gimeno conducts this new production by Christof Loy: three acts of mounting tension that crash into one of opera's most heartbreaking finales.
