In Amir Naderi's 1993 neo-noir, a desperate man traverses Manhattan from Washington Heights to the Lower East Side, but the city itself steals the show. The film transforms a simple rent-money quest into a hypnotic visual poem where street corners and subway platforms become characters in their own right.
